Profile
The Donner-Reed Pioneer Museum is a small history museum in Grantsville, housed in an adobe building from 1852 that first served as the town’s school and meetinghouse. It is named for the Donner-Reed Party, which stopped at nearby springs in 1846 before the hard crossing of the Salt Desert, and it displays items the emigrants left behind along with other pioneer and Native American relics. Outside, the grounds include a log cabin, a pioneer blacksmith shop, an old iron jail cage and a monument built from the cornerstones of early Grantsville buildings. The museum is generally opened by arrangement, so contact Grantsville City ahead of time to set up a visit.
